Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used in the production of over 3,000 known building materials.  Its physical properties, including tensile strength, light weight, and thermal resistance, as well as natural abundance, made it an ideal component from classical Rome through the modern era.  Exposure to asbestos fibers was found to be a significant health risk, particularly to the human respiratory system.  These health risks lead to efforts discontinue the use of asbestos containing products, to remedy exposure risks for workers and building occupants, and to manage existing Asbestos Containing Building Materials (ACBM).  Daniel A.
